Case Study - Design4Retail launch new stores for two seasons

The leading surf, street and snow sportswear retailer, 'two seasons', has joined forces with retail design agency, design4retail, to launch its latest retail outlet in the heart of Leicester.

D4R were asked to create a new 'two seasons' store concept to combine the unique mix of high tech performance clothing and equipment for the snow sports enthusiast alongside the latest trends in surf and streetwear.

Working closely with two seasons, it was clear that their success is based on customer service and genuine brands that not only perform and give value for money, but also deliver a fresh & exciting look for their customer. D4R were keen to ensure the store concept would provide a high tech feel without overpowering the stores message of value for money. Making good use of space for customers to interact with the products, the product categories are well planned and give store staff a canvas to assist and educate the customer helping them choose the correct products. The varied merchandising methods used give the store a fresh and varied feel.

D4R began a brainstorming exercise with the client to explore the needs of the retail environment and ethos of the brands on display. After presenting loose concept sketches to the client accompanied with mood boards, we then went on to finalise the interior with 3D photo realistic rendered visuals. D4R design managed the complete interior scheme; manufacturing the retail equipment and worked alongside our shopfitting partner to ensure the installation was a complete success.

The 3500 sq ft location was split over two floors; upstairs for high tech performance clothing and equipment and downstairs for the latest fashion trends.

To display clothing and accessories, freestanding units and wall units were designed using a mixture of steel and timber. All units were developed using the same core materials and fixings, this allowed them to be moved around the store creating a completely modular free-dress system. In the future this will enable the store to grow and evolve to encompass new products.

Vertical racking was developed to merchandise the snowboards to allow the varied designs to be viewed and enable customers to easily lift them out from the display.

Large format graphics and plasma screen advertising was used in store to promote the individual brand benefits and link into the snow, surf and streetwear lifestyle.

Clothing upstairs comes from leading high tech ski/snow equipment manufacturers such as Burton, Spider, Saloman, North Face, Helly Hansen etc.

Downstairs you will find Two Season's unique mix and choice of styles for Men's and Ladies fashion including bands such as Roxy/Quicksilver, Ripcurl and Animal.

In a statement from two seasons, a spokesman said 'We want to continue to build on our status and reputation as one of the UK's leading independent snow and surf specialist and our new Leicester store has a completely fresh image that combines our urban brands with cutting edge technical equipment using unique design elements and imagery'.

D4R are working on other locations for Two Seasons which are due to open in the near future, and have also designed and manufactured a bespoke retail system to be used throughout the chain of stores.
