HOF window kit – a sweet success
Monday 1 June 2009 - POPbuyer Editor

Specialist designers and manufacturers of visual display solutions Display One have recently completed the successful first phase installation of their new window system for House Of Fraser stores.

An incredibly flexible, modular system drawing its structural inspiration from natural honeycomb it is proving to be a sweet success for the client. So sweet, in fact, that Display One are now looking at rolling out the scheme to all House of Fraser stores.

House of Fraser are committed to investing in their windows and have remained so during the current economic downturn. As a forward thinking retailer HOF understands that the importance of delivering exciting and impactful window displays is not diminished during difficult times.
House of Fraser approached Display One in September 2008 asking them to design a new premium window system to take the store window presentation forward in line with their new brand identity and the strap line “temptation on every level”. At that time HOF had just launched a revamped Oxford Street store so the new window system had to fall in line with its design but also had to be multi functional across all departments and all store formats and not be aimed at a look or a trend so it did not age. HOF also specified that the system had to be able to carry double sided displays, be simple to use and incorporate the new brand colours of black and Rubine Red.

Display One’s creative team considered all the requirements from the brief and found themselves repeatedly being drawn towards a solution using naturally occurring structures. Alongside their design visuals a small scale model of the window system allowed the client to clearly see its benefits - the hexagonal honeycomb shape offers infinite modular possibilities with no obvious shelf fixing points and the well-considered design means the units can be used on their sides as shelving and on their backs as plinths as required. Shelves can be positioned at any height within the units depending on their length. The integration of half width plinths means HOF staff can easily create groupings of 3 different height display plinths. Complementary smaller cosmetic plinths have been developed to fit seamlessly into the scheme and perfectly highlight beauty and small product displays. Easy to erect, flat-packable Graphic frames have been designed carefully to allow them to work successfully either with or without a graphic in place. Contemporary bag stands manufactured from a single folded sheet of steel with a special powder coating technique which allows precise application of 2 colours complete the system.
